Water:
Drink extra water in the days after your session. Drinking more water will hydrate the body's fascia (connective tissue) and allow the Bowen treatment to work better. Also, your body will be detoxing metabolic waste, so flush it out with water. If you are dehydrated, you may be sore or uncomfortable for a few days.
Walk:
Walking stimulates blood flow and encourages the muscles to move to their correct position. Take a 10-minute walk after the session to help incorporate the new signals your body has received. If you sit a lot during the week, get up and walk around for a few minutes every 30 minutes. However, vigorous activity is not recommended within 24 hours of your session.
Wait:
Bowenwork continues to work for up to 10 days after a session so it’s very important to not get any other treatment (massage, chiropractic) within 5 days before or after your Bowen appointment. This allows your body to fully process the information it has received and to adjust as needed.
Other important information:
It’s very common to have a few days of relief after your first session, only to have the pain come back, sometimes stronger than before. Coming in for your 2nd appointment is very important. Your body is adjusting to the signals it received in the first session and is fighting them. That's why you may have pain. Your body needs the signals again to remind itself of the new changes it is making, versus the old patterns that were hurting you. You will get longer lasting relief after each subsequent session.
